36 Sleeps.....25 more work days...

Ever thrown a party and had that last minute panic a few moments before the official start time that no one will show up??? We'll that's what we feel each week when we hold an open inspection at our house. But in our case...no one does show up.

So, it's Thursday again and we've spruced the house up. Hopefully tonight we get a few nibbles.

On a more positive note, we have accommodation for the first 10 days in NY sorted. East Village here we come!

My work situation seems to be moving forward with a lovely moustache wearing hepatologist keen to take me on. Now, to work out the finer details like who will do my job while I'm gone.....

The countdown has begun...

50 days to take-off and things are starting to heat up.

Got a great deal on the flights but have to fly United “thrift” class – I’m not sure what that means but I’m worried. I note staff at a Japanese airport found a guy stuck under the wheel carriage of a Delta plane the other day (dead). I'm hoping that isn't “thrift class”.

Other than that....
No job
No one to rent our house
No place to stay when we get there...

Hmmm....me thinks we better start getting organised!

Game on!!!

Thanks to the wonders of long service leave and a brilliant boss I have the two thumbs up to head off to NYC for 6 whole months...and what's even better is I'll be getting paid to be there. Now all I need to figure out are....

1) what work to do over there
2) what visa I need
3) what to do with our place here while away
4) where to live over there
5) how to coordinate all the visitors that have already said they're coming!!!!

I'll be working my way through these questions over the coming months so stay tuned...

Estimated date of departure....April 1st.

New York....here I come!!!!

The dream is born....

As we head into summer the number of tourists wandering around Sydney with map in hand has started to grow. In their quick dry cargo pants that zip off to shorts they seem filled with excitement and a sense of adventure. It’s got me thinking about where I’d like an adventure to.

NEW YORK!!!! Without a doubt!

I love the hugeness of the place and the orderly way the streets are laid out so you can always tell how far away a place is. I love that a single slice of pizza is the size of a meal and that you have to fold it in half to fit it in your mouth. I love all the little neighbourhoods, how distinct from each other they are, despite only a block or two separating them.

But in my adventure dream I’m not carrying a map, wearing sensible hiking boots and breathable fabrics. I’m smartly dressed and navigating the subway with ease. I know where the best bagels are, the best sashimi, what day to avoid the crowds at the Met. I’m not a tourist, I’m a New Yorker!
