As we head into summer the number of tourists wandering around Sydney with map in hand has started to grow. In their quick dry cargo pants that zip off to shorts they seem filled with excitement and a sense of adventure. It’s got me thinking about where I’d like an adventure to.
NEW YORK!!!! Without a doubt!
I love the hugeness of the place and the orderly way the streets are laid out so you can always tell how far away a place is. I love that a single slice of pizza is the size of a meal and that you have to fold it in half to fit it in your mouth. I love all the little neighbourhoods, how distinct from each other they are, despite only a block or two separating them.
But in my adventure dream I’m not carrying a map, wearing sensible hiking boots and breathable fabrics. I’m smartly dressed and navigating the subway with ease. I know where the best bagels are, the best sashimi, what day to avoid the crowds at the Met. I’m not a tourist, I’m a New Yorker!
